My deepest condolences to all of Phil’s family on hearing of this such sad news. Phil and I worked together at KFC. The first day I met him was when he joined us at a conference before his official start. From that one meet and greet, immediately I knew he was one of the good guys as I’m sure all would agree. It was a pleasure to have spent some time with him, worked alongside him and enjoyed a few vesper martinis with him. Rest in peace Phil.

Hi Ali, I was incredibly shocked and sad when I found out about Phil’s illness and him subsequently losing that battle recently. I had the pleasure of working alongside Phil for many enjoyable years, he was a fantastic member of the team and I will remember him, and his driving, very fondly – I still don’t know how he managed to see over the steering wheel from that near horizontal seat position !
Sincere condolences to you and the boys, I wish you all the best at this incredibly sad time,Trusty

Message sent to the specsavers team:
It is with great sadness that we have learnt of the passing of Phil Williams who was part of the Specsavers family for twelve years from 2008 until 2020. Phil worked in the Digital Technology Team and was instrumental in establishing Specsavers online presence, as well as working on Frame Styler and many of our other digitally enabled deliveries.
In 2020 Phil was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour and given months to live. He outlived that prognosis for four years, taking part in experimental drug trials and surgery at the very cutting edge of treatment. It was very much in Phil’s nature to look for the positive in every situation and he took the same approach to his illness, choosing to use the time he had left to further research into the condition that would ultimately claim his life. In May of this year Phil was finally discharged from the Royal Marsden hospital having exhausted all treatment options.
Phil died peacefully in Thames Hospice on Friday 5th July with his wife Ali by his side. Funeral arrangements will be shared by the family in due course and Ali would welcome any of the Specsavers family that would like to attend to celebrate Phil’s life. Please contact xxxxxx if you would like details of the funeral arrangements.
We understand that this could be an emotional time for those of you who knew and worked closely with Phil so would like to remind you of the support and resources available should you need it.

So sorry to hear of Phil’s passing – he was a truly lovely man who I loved working with – and he leaves a real legacy with Specsavers of tech change that is still being used (probably each minute) that was driven by him. He so loved his family too – I had a lovely evening sitting next to him at dinner when he talked about you all and it was clear how important you each were to him. I am thinking of you all ❤️

Dreadful news. Phil was always first with a laugh and a joke at Alldays and Blockbuster. A talented man who left his ego at home and was key to team development at both companies. I last saw Phil (and his camera) at the Goodwood Revival meeting, he was so happy amongst fast cars. RIP Phil

Hi Alison, so stunned to hear this and so, so sorry for you and your family’s loss. Phil was instantly recognisable as one of the smartest, nicest people anyone could hope to meet. I remember well the times building PCs in those cold sheds, the rollout teams and the support in that tumbledown office in Hamble. Thinking of you and him at this time. Will raise a glass for him this evening. Love to you all from Jean and I xxx
-
I had the pleasure of meeting Phil on the Alldays rollout in Scotland way back in 1994 so im devasted in hearing this news as Phil was an amazing, welcoming and a great friend who made my relocation to hamble very easy. I will always remember our all night whiskey drinking sessions Phil with Paul Y and Paul R, Rest in peace and sending my love to your family ❤️ Stuart
-
Stu such lovely words, thank you. I hope you’re keeping well.

I worked for a little while with Phil, at blockbusters. He had a lotus at the time and I was too fat to get into it, but he was gracious and helped me. He was a really lovely man and I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve looked through the pics and thank you for sharing them, they were so lovely and he has a lovely warm smile and demeanour, so sad and a terrible tragedy.
-
I first started to work with Phil in 2020 (lockdown) and eventually got to meet him in person whilst testing a new restaurant app. I had always appreciated Phil’s warmth, professionalism and relaxed approach on calls and knew he was someone I wanted to work with. Due to social distancing we couldn’t even shake hands when we did finally meet. You had a massive impact on those around you and have been missed since falling ill. RIP
-
Worked with Phil for 3 years, such a kind man, always had a smile on his face even in the face of difficulty. Rest in peace Phil

Such a pleasure to not only work with Phil but to get to know each other on more meaningful level.
Appreciated seeing Phil again last July and you Ali and the boys for the first time. Your happy home made an impression on me. And Phil of course gave me a walkthrough of the Lotus 😁. He’ll be in my memories. Thinking of you all.

I had the good fortune to meet Phil when he wooed my greatest (and oldest) school friend, Ali. To say she was smitten is a complete understatement, she adored him. And he worshipped the ground she walked on. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t see a smile on Phil’s face. I can still see his eyes crinkling as he smiles. You may not be able to walk beside us but we will carry your memory in our hearts. You fought the fight well but now it is time for you to rest. All my love to Ali, Nick, Dan and families. Rag the lotus through the clouds xxx

Such a lovely boy who I first met at a Mother and Toddler group in Worthing. A great playmate for Daniel, Matthew and Shirley. Wonderful holidays in the caravan in Anglesey making air fix models. Always the sensible one looking out for Ian and my trio. Will be very sadly missed Phil you really were one of the good guys. RIP
